Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
